Confirmation of the completion of all required courses

• until 31 March for the summer semester
• until 31 October for the winter semester

Application for admission to the artistic diploma or master project

• until 30 April for the summer semester
• until 30 November for the winter semester

Submission and evaluation of the master of diploma thesis

Two bound copies of the master or diploma thesis together with the form submission of the final master or diploma thesis have to be handed-in to the Office of Student Affairs. One copy will be forwarded to the supervisor and the other will be passed on to the library after assessment.

Layout of the written master of diploma thesis

The copy of the master thesis must be glued into the spine and bound as a hard copy, the first- and surname must be printed on the spine. The thesis can be printed either on one side or on both sides.

The thesis also has to include a declaration of academic honesty with the following text:

I hereby declare that this thesis has been created by myself, none other than the quoted sources nor any other aids have been used and I have not drawn on any other type of assistance. My thesis has not in any way been submitted (to a supervisor for assessment) either domestically or abroad and this copy is identical to the assessed copy of my thesis.

Abstracts have to be included in German as well as English (maximum of 250 words each).

Application

In order to graduate from doctoral studies, it is necessary to submit an application for admission to the doctoral examination. This document and the corresponding application for the naming of the evaluator of a dissertation should be submitted to the Dean of Studies. External evaluators can be nominated in accordance with the Vice-Rector for Teaching.

All necessary forms can be found below. When the documents are approved, the dissertation assessment form will be sent to the respective evaluators.

In addition to the application for the doctoral examination, two bound copies of the dissertation have to be submitted to the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs.

Formal requirements for dissertations

All copies of the dissertation have to be bound with a laminated spine and a hard cover. First- and surname should be printed on the spine. It is recommended to design the first pages of the dissertation in accordance with the guidelines and to prepare abstracts in both German and English (max. 250 words each) and incorporate them into the work.

Date and procedure of the doctoral exam

The doctoral exam can take place two weeks after the submission of the application at the earliest. As part of the doctoral exam, the dissertation has to be defended in its scientific context in front of the examination senate. The examination senate includes those university professors who advised on or assessed the dissertation.

Assessment and award of graduation certificates

The doctoral studies are completed upon positive assessment of the doctoral examination and the dissertation, which is then followed by the authorised award of the academic title by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs. At the end of each semester a graduation ceremony takes place. Attendance is free of charge and requires registration at the Office of Student Affairs.
