State Scholarship for Media Art 2026 goes to Simon Goritschnig

09. March 2026

What value will water, a seed or a forest have for people in a future where natural resources are scarcer and politically contested?

Simon Goritischnig asked himself these and other questions about how we might collectively deal with biological resources that are taken for granted today in the artistic process behind his series of paintings Bionic Dreams, for which he received this year's state scholarship for media art.

The artist explores how perception and society's approach to issues such as ecology, freedom and mortality could change in the face of the climate crisis. His works revolve around geopolitical dynamics and the associated handling of biological resources – questions that are becoming increasingly existential for future generations.
