The travel
grant enables participation in the Austrian Museum Day (
www.museumstag.at) for young
professionals who are active or wish to become active in the museum and cultural sector but do not have institutional affiliation
or financial support.
Alma S. Wittlin (1899, Lviv, Ukraine – 1991,
Palo Alto, California) was an innovative museologist and educational scholar. In 1937, she fled Nazi persecution and emigrated
to the English-speaking world. There, she received support through scholarships that enabled her groundbreaking museum research.
Her work at the intersection of museology, biopsychology, and education also earned her long-term recognition and acclaim.
Grant Coverage- Two lump-sum grants of €400 each to contribute toward travel and accommodation
expenses.
The scholarship is intended for:- Students and graduates in relevant
fields of study
- Independent cultural workers, curators, and museum educators/mediators
- Individuals in the
orientation or early-career phase
- Career changers with a demonstrable connection to the museum sector
Requirements- Applicants
must be 35 years of age or younger
- Residence and primary place of professional activity in Austria
- No permanent
employment contract in the museum sector, or
- No possibility of institutional funding or reimbursement of costs (a
self-declaration is sufficient)
- Demonstrable motivation to work in or engage with the museum sector

the short application form by 31 August 2026
- Applicants will be notified by 7 September 2026
- Eligible candidates
will be selected by random draw.
Reporting Requirements- Submission of a short report on participation
in the Austrian Museum Day (maximum 5,000 characters, including spaces).
