We
are pleased to announce the new Call for Papers for the upcoming issue of Inmaterial, the scientific journal of BAU, coordinated
by Mariona Moncunill. This special edition is titled "Visions of the Future: Iberian Visual Culture After Democracy, 1974–1998,"
and it is open for contributions until October 9, 2023.
About the call:In a world where
contemporary design is deeply rooted in a globalized and politically complex context, this call for articles arises from the
project "Visions of the Future: Iberian Visual Culture After Democracy 1974-1998." This project focuses on visual culture
and graphic design during the establishment of democracy in the Iberian Peninsula in the late 20th century. The uniqueness
of the political landscape in the Iberian Peninsula during this transitional period, intertwined with postmodern debate, offers
exciting possibilities for research in visual communication. How did the postmodern debate reflect on the political positioning
of Portugal and Spain? Was design a tool of propaganda? Was design a tool for change?
What are we looking
for?We are seeking original research articles that can contribute to this collaborative study on contemporary
visual culture in the Iberian Peninsula. We particularly value contributions where communication design becomes a "pivot of
change" and relates to the cultural complexity of this historical context.
Accepted languages: Portuguese, English, Spanish,
and Catalan. Please consult the Author Guidelines on our website.
