Against the backdrop of the Anthropocene, the lecture will use concrete examples to highlight different approaches as well
as content-related
and formal solutions by artists who deal with ecological themes.
Verena
Kaspar-Eisert is chief curator of MuseumsQuartier E+B GesmbH, for which she is responsible for art projects in the area, curates
exhibitions in the MQ Freiraum, MQ Salon and MQ Art Box, supervises the MQ Artist-in-Residence and programmes a wide range
of event and discourse formats.
From 2005 to 2011, she was curator and exhibition manager of the exhibition space Kunstraum
Niederoesterreich, which opened in 2006, where she established a focus on performance art. She then set up the OstLicht gallery
and managed it from 2011 to 2014. From 2012 to 2014, she was also the director of the private photo museum WestLicht. From
2014-2022 she was curator of Kunst Haus Wien and from 2019-2022 she was also curator of the FOTO WIEN photo festival. She
has curated international group exhibitions such as Visions of Nature, ÜberLeben am Land and Nach uns die Sintflut, in which
the relationship between humans and nature in the age of the Anthropocene is addressed. She has developed major solo presentations
with artists such as Rinko Kawauchi, Joel Meyerowitz, Martin Parr, Elina Brotherus, Susan Meiselas and Gregor Sailer. She
has realised solo projects dedicated to the theme of art and ecology with artists such as Iris Andraschek, Oliver Ressler,
Ines Doujak and Judith Fegerl.
Verena Kaspar-Eisert specialises in contemporary photography and visual art that deals
with ecological and socially relevant topics. She writes and publishes texts, organises workshops and is a member of various
advisory boards and juries.
